The Ideal Age for a First Orthodontic Visit

Earlier than most parents expect
Many parents wait until all the baby teeth are gone before booking an orthodontic evaluation. In reality, most orthodontic associations recommend a first visit by around age seven.
At that age, a mix of baby and adult teeth is already in place, which gives an orthodontist enough information to spot developing issues — like crowding, crossbites, or jaw growth patterns — well before they become harder to treat.
Why early evaluation helps
Some problems are easier and faster to correct while the jaw is still growing
Early treatment can sometimes reduce the need for more involved treatment later
It gives parents a clear timeline instead of guessing when "the right time" is
Not every child needs treatment at seven — in many cases, the visit simply confirms that development is on track and sets a checkpoint for later. Either way, an early look means no surprises down the road.
